About the Book

From the author of the On the Line and Fire on Ice hockey romance series comes a sultry novel featuring a brooding NHL player who’s hell on skates—and the no-nonsense woman who forces him to clean up his act.

Miranda: Even though I’m broke, putting myself through college, and working two jobs, I’m trying to make the best of it. Meanwhile, Jake Birch, hockey’s hottest bad boy, lives in a luxury hotel in downtown Chicago—and still complains about every little thing in his penthouse. But after I tell him off, instead of getting me fired, Jake requests me as his personal housekeeper. Then he starts flirting with me. Only I’m not flirting back . . . at least, I’m trying not to. Did I mention that he’s hockey’s hottest bad boy?

Jake: I’ve met the best woman at the worst possible time. Miranda is the fire to my ice—a sexy, charmingly candid spark who breaks down my walls and reminds me what it’s like to feel again. But I’m being forced to date my team owner’s daughter to keep my job, so I can’t be caught with Miranda. Still, we’re getting closer—until Miranda finds out about my “girlfriend.” And that’s not the only secret I’ve been keeping. But Miranda’s the one I want . . . even if she doesn’t believe me.

---------------------

Hockey romances are probably my favorite sub-genre of romance and I am always looking for more. When I came across Hooked, I was so excited when I saw it was about a cocky hockey player and his hotel maid, and I knew that I had to read it!

Miranda is working hard at two jobs while putting herself through business school. So when she runs into hockey stud Jake Birch in his luxury hotel room, she wants nothing to do with his cocky, arrogant attitude. Jake is instantly intrigued by Miranda and her fiery attitude, so he is determined to show her he's not all bad. Miranda doesn't have time to date a hockey player and Jake finds it hard to open up about his past to a woman for the first time in his life. Can these two seemingly opposite people make it work, or are their worlds just too different?

When I started this book, I loved how much Miranda pushed against Jake and didn't want him in her life. I admired how hard working Miranda was and how much she just wanted to get her degree and make something of her life. Jake, of course, seemed very cocky and full of himself, which made sense because he was a hotshot hockey star. I loved all of the hockey moments we got in this book because many hockey romances lack the actual sport in them. Jake is so talented and I thought his superstitions were so cute! I also loved how we got both the highs and the lows of Jake being an athlete. They didn't win every game, but we still got to see how important the sport was to Jake.

While I loved the beginning, as the story went on, things were a bit too cutesy and HEA before the actual end of the story. The conflict that built through the story was obvious and I knew it would come to play at some point in that novel. The way that the conflict played out was so unrealistic and I wish there was a less over the top conflict that would jeopardize the relationship between our two main characters. Even then, they overcame that conflict very easily. This was just a sweet romance and I wanted much more conflict and obstacles standing between them.

In the end, Hooked was an enjoyable hockey romance, but I wanted a more realistically flawed relationship. They got together a little too easily and were too happy throughout the story. Where was the drama? The drama we did get was a bit too predictable and over the top. While a cute story, Hooked had flaws that prevented me from really enjoying the relationship.
